The Lady Bucs of Shelton State, the ACCC tournament runner-up in Alabaster, defeated Louisburg College (NC) 2-0 and 4-3 in the District I Championship. The Hurricanes of Louisburg (31-16) advanced to district play after defeating Spartanburg Methodist College in the Region 10 (NC, SC, VA) Championship. With the win, the Lady Bucs advance to the NJCAA Championship Tournament in St. George, UT. The tournament is scheduled to begin May 13.
The new postseason format, which allows the ACCC runner-up to advance to District play, gave the Lady Bucs (32-24) an opportunity to join fellow ACCC member Wallace-Hanceville in Utah.
"The ACCC has had great success in NJCAA softball, and due to that, the new format afforded us an opportunity to have two teams represent Region 22 in Utah," stated ACCC Commissioner Dean Myrick. "Both teams will represent us well, and I look forward to following them."
