GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Iowa Western's Jake Niggemeyer and Matt Eardensohn combined to limit Chatahoochee Valley to just four hits in a 8-0 run-rule victory over the Pirates in game 10 of the Alpine Bank NJCAA World Series at Suplizio Field.
Niggemeyer took the ball and pitched the first six and a third innings. He allowed four hits, walked three and struck out six to earn the win.
Eardensohn followed him up and pitched the final two outs of the game picking up a strikeout and induced a ground out to end the game.
The Reivers scored their eight runs in the first and third innings and were able to pound out 14 hits in the game.
In the first inning, Matt Lloyd laced an RBI single, scoring Jared Gates while their second run came off an errant pickoff attempt of first base to take the 2-0 lead.
Iowa Western plated six runs in the third inning, all of them unearned as the Pirates committed two errors in the innings, to push the lead to 8-0.
Reiver Matt Hoeg was 2-for-2 in the inning and led off with a double and later a RBI single through the left side of the infield. Hoeg finished the game 4-for-4 with two runs scored.
Nick Menken was also 3-for-3 with a run scored and a run driven in.
Chattahoochee Valley was led at the plate by catcher JT Thomas who was 2-for-2 with a double.
Iowa Western moves on to game 15 on Wednesday June 1 at 7:30pm against the winner of San Jacinto and Cisco.
Chattahoochee Valley drops into game 12 tomorrow afternoon at 3pm against Harford.
